Q&A SECTION — TOPCOATS & ADDITIONAL UV PROTECTION

Do sprayed bedliners already have UV protection?
Yes. All quality sprayed bedliners include UV inhibitors mixed into the base material. These are subject to slow fading and chalking caused by sun exposure as well as simple oxidation.
Why offer an additional UV-stable topcoat?
UV inhibitors help, but as you have already seen looking at bedliners a few months old, they don’t completely stop color change over time, they never look the same as the day they were done — especially with:

Constant sun exposure
Lighter or custom colors
Trucks parked outdoors full-time
An optional UV-stable topcoat improves long-term color retention and chalk resistance

If bedliners already have UV inhibitors, why do they still fade?
Basic Chemistry. Technically speaking, industry standard bedliners are made from an elastomeric material call Polyurea that is referred to as an aromatic compound in it's least expensive form. Aromatic materials are subject to fading despite any UV inhibitors added to them. The alternative material that is not as subject to fading in a bedliner is another form of Polyurea material that is referred to as Aliphatic UV topcoats are Aliphatic, designed for application on an elastomeric surface such as a sprayed in bedliner. Aliphatic bedliner material is very expensive comparatively.
Is the UV topcoat just automotive clear coat?
No. A proper UV-stable topcoat is designed specifically for elastomeric bedliner materials. It bonds differently, flexes with the liner, and is formulated for durability — unlike automotive clear coat, which is made for rigid painted surfaces. No one should ever apply an automotive clear coat to bedliner material of any kind. The bond will fail.

How is a UV topcoat applied?

A UV topcoat is not just a coating but actual Aliphatic bedliner material. Just like any professional bedliner material it is applied via a Graco Reactor at 2000 psi & 160 °F.

Does a UV topcoat make the liner shiny or slippery?
All bedliners have a slight gloss when new regardless of UV when new. A UV coating does not make it slippery.
A UV topcoat keeps the bedliner looking- just done with that like new subtle satin-gloss look.

Do I need the UV topcoat?
Not necessarily.Many customers choose the Standard liner and are very happy.
The UV-stable topcoat is optional and best suited for:
Trucks that live in direct sunlight
Color-matched or lighter colors
Owners who want the best long-term appearance
